Inn of the Good Shepherd Donation

On Friday, January 4, 2019, we presented the Inn of the Good Shepherd with a donation of $10,000. Myles Vanni (Executive Director of Inn) was blown away by the generosity shown by Local 848 and wanted to pass on a heartfelt thanks to the members of our Local.

Another great deed from Unifor Local 848.

I would like to thank Chelsea Jennings for all her hard work on making this membership involvement possible. If you see Chelsea, please make sure to thank her!

Chelsea is an Assistant Operator in Process 1 on the Isomax/#2Crude. I would also like to take a moment to thank her parents for assisting with the bidding process.

Chelsea came to the October General Membership Meeting with a motion for our Local to participate in the Brigden Fair Steer Auction put on by Brigden Beef 4 H Club. The kids that participate have to raise the steer and sell them at auction. The money the steers bring in go back to the kids who have raised them. Our Local won, via the auction, the Grand Champion Steer, which is typically won by CF Industries. The champion Steer weighed in at 1,420 lbs. The champion steer was raised by Trevor Dobbin (relative of PTL Len Dobbin). Trevor will be putting the money he won towards building his own herd of cattle.

The Local also won a second steer that weighed in at 1,160 pounds. The second steer was raised by Clayton Shaw, who will be putting the money towards tuition at Conestoga College next year.

A total of roughly 1,600 pounds of meat was donated to six charitable organizations: The Inn of the Good Shepherd, Women’s Interval Home, Huron Boys Home, Salvation Army, Lambton Kent District Seniors Homes, and the Petrolia food bank.

Give yourselves a pat on the back. Remember this is why we make motions to help people less fortunate than us!
